The Hook Bank

15 scroll-stopping hook templates that actually work.

The exact opening lines pulling from what’s actually working right now... copy them, paste them, post them up.

Use these to open a talking head (start yapping straight into camera) or as the on-screen text over your b-roll. Same hook, two formats. Test both.

introduction

The whole science of a scroll-stopping hook.

Every reel that goes from 200 views to 20,000+ does one of three things in the first three seconds. How do I know? Because I've been running social media accounts with views in the millions every month and it's not beginners luck.

It puts you inside a moment you recognize. It says something that contradicts what you already believe. Or it opens a sentence your brain physically cannot leave unfinished.

That’s it. That’s the whole science of a scroll-stopping hook.

What follows are 15 fill-in-the-blank templates that you can use for any niche.

Each one includes how to use it and one example so you can see exactly how to make it yours.

the three patterns

Behind every reel that goes viral.

01

Pattern 1It names the moment

The viewer thinks “she’s talking about me” before you’ve finished your first sentence. Instant recognition creates instant attention.

02

Pattern 2It challenges a belief

The brain cannot scroll past a contradiction. When you say the opposite of what someone expects, they stay to find out why.

03

Pattern 3It opens a loop

An unfinished thought, a number without context, a story that starts in the middle... the brain will stay until the loop is closed.

what kills a hook on impact
Being too broad. Sounding like an ad. Burying the point. Using words your audience doesn’t use themselves. Speaking to only the problem and not the symptoms.

Ok let's go! Pick a template. Fill it in. Post it today.

01
Hook 01

The POV Hook

Template
“POV: you’re a [hyper specific identity] who wants [specific desire] without [specific thing they’re tired of] and you find my page.”
How to use it

This hook works because it puts the exact right person inside a scene they recognize immediately. The more specific you are about the identity, the desire, and the obstacle, the harder it stops the scroll. Don’t say “entrepreneur.” Say “flower farmer.” Don’t say “grow online.” Say “sell out every market weekend.” Specificity is the hook.

Example (homesteading)
“POV: you’re a first year homesteader who wants to actually feed your family from your land without spending every weekend watching YouTube tutorials that confuse the heck out of you and you find my page.”
02
Hook 02

The Number + Action Hook

Template
“In [specific time period], [specific number] people [specific result] because I [specific action] — and these are the [things] that worked.”
How to use it

Lead with a number and a time frame. The brain trusts specificity. “7,291 people followed me in February” is infinitely more believable than “I grew a lot last month.” Pair the number with the action that caused it and promise to reveal what worked. Delivers all the value in your caption.

Example (fitness)
“In 90 days, 312 women in my challenge lost their first 10 pounds because we stopped counting calories and started doing this instead... and these are the five things that actually worked.”
03
Hook 03

The Honest Journey Hook

Template
“I grew from [starting point] to [result] in [time frame] and YES it was hard at first, but then it wasn’t. Here’s what changed.”
How to use it

This hook works because it validates their struggle to build trust and then positions you as the authority who has already gotten the result they want. The “and then it wasn’t” is the turn that keeps them watching. Use your real numbers and results. The more specific to your own journey you can be, the more believable and captivating the reel is for them.

Example (sourdough / baking)
“I went from burning every loaf to baking sourdough that people beg me to sell in 6 weeks and YES the first three weeks felt completely hopeless... and then they didn’t. Here’s what changed.”
04
Hook 04

The Reaction Hook

Template
“The noise I hear/make when [specific person] tells me [specific complaint they make too early/before getting specific result] — [reaction].”
How to use it

This is a reaction hook where you’re responding to a common objection or excuse your audience makes. It works because it’s relatable, slightly provocative, and immediately signals that you have a strong opinion on the topic. Use it when you want to address the #1 reason people give up on something before it works. Keep the reaction visual, like a look, a sound, or an authentic expression you'd make.

Example (parenting)
“The noise I hear when parents who’ve tried a new bedtime routine for four days tell me it doesn’t work.”
05
Hook 05

The Permission Hook

Template
“For the last [specific time] been making some of the [self-deprecating description] content on the internet and here’s what happened.”
How to use it

Permission-giving hooks are some of the highest performing content in this space right now because they remove the #1 barrier your audience has to getting the results they deeply want, perfectionism. When you lead with self-deprecation and pair it with a real result you've had, you give your audience permission to start before they’re ready.

Example (business)
“For the last 3 weeks I've been making some of the cringiest content on the internet and here’s what happened... 5,000 new followers, zero aesthetic required.”
06
Hook 06

The Stranger’s Words Hook

Template
“My [relationship to person] just said [6 words / one sentence] that hit me like (a sack of potatoes) and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.”
How to use it

This is a cliffhanger hook built around someone else’s words. It works because the brain immediately wants to know what the words were. The more unexpected the source, an elderly stranger, a child, a client, the more powerful the hook. The caption tells the full story and delivers the lesson inside the personal moment you had with this person.

Example (motherhood)
“My 6 year old said one sentence at dinner last night that stopped me completely, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.”
07
Hook 07

The Vindication Hook

Template
“My [relationship to person] called my [thing you created] [negative word] — this [specific result] happened since.”
How to use it

This is a vindication hook. It works because it taps into a universal human experience...being doubted by someone close to you...and pairs it with an real result. The contrast between the insult and the outcome is what stops the scroll and inspires people to feel like they can do it too. Use real details, specifics and numbers for this one.

Example (business)
“My best friend called my Instagram embarrassing and my reels obnoxious...this page has done $150,000 since.” “My old personal trainer called my home workout routine not enough to actually lose any weight...I'm down 32 pounds and haven't stepped foot in a gym since.”
08
Hook 08

The Income Reveal Hook

Template
“My [lead magnet / freebie / one thing] just added an extra $[specific amount] to my income because I did this ONE thing and I’m showing you exactly what it is.”
How to use it

Specific results numbers paired with a single action create massive curiosity. The brain wants to know what the one thing is. This hook works best when you immediately follow it with visual proof like screenshots, a graph, a breakdown of numbers.

EXAMPLE (MARKETING / FITNESS)
“My lead magnets just added an extra $13,047 to my income because I did this ONE thing and I’m showing you exactly what it is.”
09
Hook 09

The Counter-Intuitive Hook

Template
“I stopped [common thing everyone does] and my [specific result] doubled and absolutely nobody is talking about this.”
How to use it

Counter-intuitive hooks built around stopping something most people are doing, perform super well because they challenge the advice everyone else is giving in your niche. Pair “I stopped” with something your audience is currently doing and believes they should be doing. The “nobody is talking about this” line makes the viewer feel like they’re about to hear something no one else knows.

EXAMPLE (MARRIAGE/ RELATIONSHIP)
“I stopped trying to fix every argument the same night it happened and our marriage got better in ways I didn’t expect... and absolutely nobody is talking about this.”
10
Hook 10

The Tough Love Hook

Template
“If you can [simple action] and choose not to, you are not [excuse they’re using]. You are [real reason].”
How to use it

This is a tough love hook that works because it calls out the story people are telling themselves and gives them the reality of what's going on. It's bold without being mean but is also a bit of a wake up call. Use it when you want to speak to the person who is stuck and knows they want to change. You can write this with warmth like you're talking to a best friend...you're not criticizing them, you're helping them see they can actually change.

EXAMPLE (PARENTING / MENTAL HEALTH)
“If you can have the conversation and choose not to, you are not protecting the peace. You are avoiding the discomfort. And those are two very different things with two very different outcomes.”
11
Hook 11

The Client Story Hook

Template
“[Specific time period] ago she had [starting point] now she has [result]. Here’s how.”
How to use it

This is such a fun one because you’re not talking about yourself you’re talking about someone else’s result. Use a client, a student, or someone you’ve helped. The more specific the starting point and the result, the harder it lands.

EXAMPLE (FLOWER FARMING)
“Two years ago she had a patch of dead grass and zero experience. now she runs a cut flower farm that sells out every single week. Here’s exactly how.”
12
Hook 12

The Permission to Stop Hook

Template
“This is your sign to stop [specific thing they keep doing] and start [specific alternative]...here’s why it changes everything.”
How to use it

“This is your sign” hooks work because they meet people in the moment they're in when they've been thinking about starting. Your audience already knows something isn’t working, they just need permission to stop and shift. Be specific about what to stop and what to start.

Example (faith / personal growth)
“This is your sign to stop googling your symptoms at 11pm and start writing down three things that are actually true. here's why your nervous system cannot tell the difference between a real threat and a searched one.” “This is your sign to stop trying to be a calm parent in the moment and start regulating yourself before the moment comes. here's why it changes everything about how your kids respond to you.
13
Hook 13

The Stupid Easy Hook

Template
“[Specific thing] I did to go from [starting point] to [result] in [time frame] stupid easy and I wish I’d started sooner.”
How to use it

The “stupid easy” phrase makes this one feel accessible and stops the scroll. Pair it with a specific result and time frame. The “I wish I’d started sooner” creates urgency for them and makes it feel like, dang if I start now, then I could have that result faster than I probably think.

Example (home organization)
“Stupid easy things I did to go from a house I was embarrassed to have people walk into to a home I actually love in 30 days... I wish I’d started every single one of these sooner.”
14
Hook 14

The Passive Result Hook

Template
“[Specific result] happened while I was [completely unrelated everyday activity] because I built [this system].”
How to use it

This hook works because it shows that you can get a massive result while also being pretty ordinary or doing normal human things. And showing that you're a normal human with this result makes it feel attainable for them too.

EXAMPLE (BUSINESS/ MEAL PREP )
“$11,000 came in over 48 hours while I was at a musical with my daughter because I built a system that sells while I’m completely offline.” “My kids ate a home cooked meal every single night of the busiest week of my life because I built a freezer meal system on one Saturday in October that I haven't thought about since.”
15
Hook 15

The Tough Love Number Hook

Template
“[Specific number] [specific action]. [Specific result]. Here’s the ONE thing I’d tell you if I wasn’t afraid of hurting your feelings.”
How to use it

This hook combines wisdom through experience with the promise of real tough love advice the probably know they need. When you say, “afraid of hurting your feelings” it makes them feel like...oh dang, I probably really need to hear this even if it feels scary. Then you deliver the insight that shifts their perspective either in your caption or in the rest of your yapping video.

Example (postpartum / new moms)
“Three years of working with postpartum moms. Thousands of conversations. Here’s the one thing I’d tell every single one of them if I wasn’t afraid of hurting their feelings.”

The hook is the hardest part and you've now got fifteen of them.

Quick note!! every one of these works as a talking head opener (just start yapping straight into the camera) or as the on-screen text over your b-roll. Same hook, two ways to shoot it. Do one or do both.

If you’re ready to make daily sales…

… then you need to be creating content that turns attention into income, without constantly chasing trends.

Inside my Binge & Buy Content Formula, I teach you exactly how to create reels that sell for you so your business can keep growing even when you are offline. The formula is built specifically around talking head content...and it's exactly how I grew my client's account from 93 followers to now over 176,000 and counting with sales rolling in every day...and the frameworks inside work just as well for b-roll reels when you want a break from talking to the camera.
